Mayfield High School senior James Schoonover of Las Cruces received the NM Mayflower Society’s annual $750 scholarship. James is attending New Mexico State University and plans to attain a degree in Aerospace Engineering. Committee Chair, Del Dyche, said of James, “It is evident that James sets goals and achieves them. He has amazing potential and we are pleased to honor and support him as he continues his educational career.”

Thank you for recognizing me as a recipient of the 2008-2009 Mayflower Scholarship. In addition to the recognition, the $750 award will go a long way in helping me afford college. Your support is greatly appreciated.

My future plans have remained very much the same. I will graduate from Mayfield High School this spring with 41 credits at NMSU that go towards the Aerospace Engineering degree, and I plan to graduate with a bachelor’ s degree in just two and a half years, so my course load will be very large. After I graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering with a minor in Applied Mathematics, I plan to proceed to get my Masters of Business Administration, on a part time basis while starting a career at NASA or Lockheed Martin. I plan to design or manage the design team for revolutionary unmanned aircraft or spacecraft.

With your support I feel certain I can attain these future goals. I admire you for stepping up to help students with their college expenses. I am honored to be recognized by your organization.
